On 19.07.2019 it was organized demonstration on Innovative technology for prevention from diseases and disabilities and protection of temperature stress at cultivation of berries (raspberries) and other fruit species with use of German fruit lime. The demonstration was organized by National Agricultural Advisory Service and “Balkan Bio Frukt” Ltd.. The event was attended by 33 participants, including farmers, farm employees, public and private advisors, researchers, students and journalists.

The purpose of the demonstration was to disseminate knowledge about new, innovative and environment friendly technology for prevention of diseases and enemies, protection from temperature stress in the cultivation of raspberries and other fruit species through the use of German fruit lime.

The main topic of the demonstration was as follows:

  • Methods and means of monitoring key pests in the cultivation of raspberries and other fruit species
  • Innovative technology for prevention from diseases and disabilities and protection of temperature stress with use of German fruit lime”

The topics were presented by Mr. Bozhidar Dimitrov, manager of “Blakan Bio Frukt” Ltd. and chairman of Bulgarian association of raspberry producers and bio-strawberries.

During the event, the greatest interest was caused by using of German fruit lime like tool for prevention of different fungal, bacterial and virus diseases and some kind of insects like “Drosophila suzukii”. The technology applies like method to keeping the harmful populations below the established thresholds of economic harm. Other useful effect is like leaflet fertilizer with 74% content of calcium oxide.

The technology brings better absorption of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and other micro and macro elements of air and soils. The application of a quarantine period is not required trough using of German fruit lime.

The event was organized under Horizon 2020 NEFERTITI project within Network 9 “Pesticide use reduction in the production of grapes, fruits and vegetables”. The Project “Networking European Farms to Enhance Cross Fertilisation and Innovation Uptake Through demonstration” (NEFERTITI) is a unique Network (selected under Programme Horizon 2020) comprising 32 partners and coordinated by ACTA, the head of Network of the French Agricultural Technical Institutes. The project duration is 4 years and it will finish to on the 31st December 2022. The overall objective of NEFERTITI is to establish an EU-wide highly connected network of well-specified demonstration and pilot farms designed to enhance knowledge exchanges, cross fertilisation among actors and efficient innovation uptake in the farming sector through peer-to-peer demonstration of techniques to be organised by themes. 10 interactive thematic networks are being created, bringing together 45 regional clusters (hubs) of demo-farmers and actors involved (advisors, NGOs, industry, education, researchers and policy makers) in 17 countries. Additional information could be found on the project website: www.nefertiti-h2020.eu.

The current demo event was organized within Bulgaria Hub under the Network 9 “Pesticide use reduction in the production of grapes, fruits and vegetables”. The main objectives of the network are efficiency in the pest control, economy balance and competitiveness, social and organizational barriers, strategies to the implementation.

The specific topics of the hub on which are focused the activities are improve efficient of the food nutrient in horticulture, reduce using of the pesticides in grape, fruit and vegetables produce.

The organizations and stakeholders involved in the hub are farmers who produce fruits and vegetables, scientific institutions, researchers in the agricultural area, representatives of business in the area of fertilizing of plants.
